Warwickshire County Cricket Club

How a county pathway programme moved from twice-yearly written reports to regular, two-way feedback across the season.

Life before GoFathom

“Before GoFathom, only older players on our EPP and Academy programmes had individual development plans, with regular appraisal and feedback calls linked to goal setting. Everyone in our County Age Group Programme had an end-of-season feedback call, plus informal verbal feedback during winter coaching sessions and over the summer.”

Why we chose it

“Feedback had always been a continuous point of contention amongst Pathway staff: when to deliver it, in which format, how often, and what impact it has on a player's development journey. It had been delivered in writing at key points, at the end of winter and the end of summer. We chose GoFathom to explore quick and easy ways to give more regular feedback and have a greater impact on players across the season.”

The impact

Parent communication

“We're still on the journey of fully embedding GoFathom into our daily practice, but it has already made feedback more transparent between coach, player and parent. It has also let players take their work-ons into different environments with external coaches.”

Voice notes & video

“The feature that's made the most impact is the ability to share different types of feedback to suit each coach's preferred style: text, voice notes, photos or video. That also helps with players' different learning styles.”

What's next

“We're now looking to use GoFathom's internal notes for our Winter Observation process, to streamline feedback for unsuccessful applicants and keep our language consistent with our Coaching Framework.”

Who it's for

I'd recommend GoFathom to any professional or recreational sports club looking to embed feedback and a two-way process with their players and coaching staff.”
